FAQs - Witnessing

Question:
I have been saved for two years, and I have a brand new life. I know that part of the Great Commission is that we are to be witnesses. I want to tell people about Jesus, but I just don't feel qualified. I am a very quiet person. Is there some special teaching that would help a shy person like me to become a witness?

Answer:
The great commission is to spread the gospel:
Matthew 28:18-20
Mark 16:15
Luke 24:47

The greatest obstacle is fear:
Of rejection
Of people
Of what might go wrong
Of offending someone

We can overcome fear:
2 Timothy 1:7, 1 John 4:18
Bind and rebuke fear. Be prepared - 1 Peter 3:15
Practice your testimony.
Keep it simple
Tell them how they can be saved
Pray
Don't be discouraged by rejection - Matthew 10:40

Qualifications:
We are called to be witnesses.
What is a witness?
Someone who gives testimony of what he has seen and heard - Acts 4:20
Someone who produces proof that what he is saying is true - Acts 1:8
A witness is not just someone who is "called to preach", but includes everyone
God wants to use you, one-on-one, with others
We are born of the Spirit - John 3:3, 2 Corinthians 5:17
We are empowered by the Spirit - Luke 24:49, Acts 1:8
We have divine assistance
Boldness - Acts 4:29, Ephesians 6:19
Opportunity - Colossians 4:3, 2Thessalonians 3:1
Conviction - John 16:8
Help – 1 Corinthians 3:7

How to do it:
Speak God's Word - John 6:63

Present the Gospel
You can tell your own personal testimony better than anyone else can.
No one can challenge your authority about your own life.

Work God's works - John 14:12

Live a Godly life - Galatians 2:20
