FAQs - Forgiveness

Question:
When I was a young girl living at home, I was sexually abused by my father. He is a prominent man, and I knew no one would believe me if I told them about it. I feel such hatred every time he gets some award for being such a great citizen or when someone tells me how lucky I am to have such a "great father". I have been unable to trust men. Sometimes I am so overcome with bitterness that I suspect all men of being abusers. I don't know why I cannot get free of these feelings that constantly poison my mind.

Answer:
Forgiveness is the key and is a command - Mark 11:25-26, Ephesians 4:32
Forgiveness toward others is necessary in order to receive God's forgiveness - Matthew 18:14-15
Unforgiveness is a sin and separates us from God - James 4:17
Unforgivess gives satan the advantage - 2 Corinthians 2:9-10, 1Peter 5:8, James 4:7
